Directory Checker Release Notes:

Directory Checker 2.61  -  03/13/2003

1.  Fixed a minor bug where the "Dirchk.Dat" = Directory_Checker Save Defaults File was not being created, when a user went to the File\Setup Screen for the first time and then pressed the "Close" button, before pressing the "Save Def's button.
2.  When the "Dirchk.Dat" file is initially created, modified the internal program code to set the Current DIRFILE on the File\Setup screen to be "Sample.D12" if it was blank.

Directory Checker 2.70  -  07/07/2003

1. Fixed a problem where the Display Files Error section could get caught in a need to End Task situation when an Error 52 Bad Filename or Number occurred repeatedly on a bad floppy disk.
2. Commented out code in a Display Files procedure that caused the section that checks for valid Directory Paths and Files to be called twice. This caused error messages to display twice on the Display Files screen.
3. Improved several error messages that said -- Dir/File Access Error...
to now say:
" Invalid Directory Path or File Access Error = " + Error Number
+ Error Description
4. Added NOTEPAD.EXE as the default editor on the File Setup screen if no DIRCHK.DAT defaults file exists for:

" Edit DIRFILE - Editor Path:"
" Dir 1 or Dir 2 - EDITOR Path:"

" Dir 1 + Dir 2 - EDITOR Path:" = Edit Dir 1 + Dir 2 is left blank as it requires an editor that can load two files at once, which NOTEPAD.EXE does not do.
5. Modified File Setup so the Edit Button will appear when the " Edit DIRFILE - Editor Path:" field is not blank.
6. Switched the Form Setup initial Auto Redisplay values so Auto Redisplay will now be defaulted to NO when no DIRCHK.DAT exists -- for initial users.

And added a Message when the Main Screen is first loaded that says:

" Click on PALM TREE Toolbar Icon -- to Display Files"

This will fix the case where the Display Files routine would be executed whenever a Menu Change Directories option is done, and initial users may want to wait until they change both directories.

Users can change the Auto Redisplay option on the File Setup screen to be Yes or No as desired.
7. Enhanced the Form About screen, and added a support reference for
-- bbussell@airmail.net
8. Added a Help Manual Shortcut to the Directory Checker Start Menu.
9. Added a check in Help Directory Checker Manual, and About Directory Checker and Display Menu sections to avoid the redisplay of the Startup Tips when you exit these.
10. Added "Display Startup Tips" Checkbox + Label to the Setup Screen, and added code to the Save Defaults and Program Load sections to process this new value in the DIRCHK.DAT file.
11. Insert a set of 31 Daily Startup Tips in the Directory_Checker Initial Load process and set a check formula to display them when the Display Startup Tips box on the Setup Screen is checked.
12. Fix Enable/Disable of the last set of Display/Mark menu items on the Display/Mark Menu
13. Made several minor changes to the Help Manual to reflect the latest changes in Directory_Checker 2.70.
14. Added new Directory_Checker_Usage_Guidelines_and_Startup_Tips.htm to the Directory Checker Start Menu.
15. The Grey -- Display Full File Info boxes below the Green D1 & D2 labels on the Main Screen have been made deeper to make the information easier to see. The text still has Yellow letters.

Directory Checker 2.80  -  08/16/2003

User Notes:

1 - If you use Notepad as your FILE / SETUP editor for <Edit DIRFILE - Editor Path>, be sure to save your new Renamed Sample.D12  file with a different name like "MyDirlist.D12", and save it using the Notepad "All Files" option, and not the "Text Documents (*.txt)" option as that will save it as "MyDirlist.D12.txt", which is not the correct filename for Directory Checker to use when you try to OPEN a new ".D12" -- DIRFILE.

2 - If you try to resize a column on the Display Files Grid, and it hesitates to redraw the columns when you let go of the mouse, simply click on a row in the grid and the the columns will be resized and redrawn.

Release Notes:

1. Made changes to several sections of the Directory Checker program in order to put in individual Name, Vers, Size, and Date/Time columns for the Dir 1 and Dir 2 fields in the Display Files Grid.

And also made these Display Files Grid columns both resizable and scrollable.

To resize a column you simply press down on your mouse while the cursor is over a column boundary "<->" and then move the mouse left or right, and stop when the column is the desired width.

This resizable feature allows vers 2.80 users to widen individual data column widths to see more of long filenames and version numbers, for example.

And once a column width is changed, it stays that way when new sets of Dirs are compared. It only resets to its default column width values when the program is shut down and reloaded again.

The Display Files Grid now shows both horizontal and vertical scroll bars as needed. This allows users to scroll up and down through data records as before, and also scroll columns back and forth to see the desired fields, especially when the columns have been widened.
2. Made significant changes to the Startup Tips. Now they are in a Resizable Text box with Vertical Scroll bars, and can be minimized for later reference while using Directory_Checker.

The Startup Tips Form has <Prev Tip> and <Next Tip> Menu options, so you can go through them and view the one you want.

Several Startup Tips have been modified, especially 3-7 and 20.

The Directory_Checker Usage Guidelines and Startup Tips and Directory_Checker Help Manual have both been modified to reflect these changes in (1) and (2) above.
3. Made the command buttons on the File/Setup screen larger so they are easier to access.
4. Modified D1+D2 -- Vers + Date/Time + Size -- Special Compare Checks so now:

If D1+D2 Vers + Size + Date/Time are Equal, then Flag the files as Equal and show them as Pink color.

If D1+D2 Vers + Size are = and Date/Time is not, Flag files as Probably Equal and show as Purple color.
(This is because Microsoft often changes DLL, OCX, etc, files Date/Time when they are saved or installed on a new computer, but they are actually the Same File with the Same Size.)

If D1+D2 Vers are = and Size and Date/Time are not, The File with the Latest Date/Time is Flagged as Newest = Red, and Oldest = Blue.

If D1+D2 Vers and Date/Time are = and Size is not, The File with the Largest size is Flagged = Red, and the Smaller Size = Blue.
5. Added D1 and D2 Browse Buttons next to the Green D1 & D2 Labels -- so users can easily and quickly select their next Dir 1 or Dir 2.
6. Added 1 space in front of the white Processing Status messages that don't start with nbrs, for clarity and consistency. These are just right of the new Browse buttons.
7. Rearranged the Change Dir 1 and Change Dir 2 screens, and added a note:

"Double Click on a Directory to Select it and Show Files"

under the Directory List box.

Also Renamed the Change Dir 1 & 2 buttons:

<Accept Dir 1> to be <Use Selected Dir 1> and
<Accept Dir 2> to be <Use Selected Dir 2> and
<Cancel/Exit> to be <Cancel>
8. Modified the Change Dir 1 and Change Dir 2 initial load process, so they load up with the initial directory that is displayed = to the currently used Dir 1 or Dir 2.

And they recover properly if a Drive Not Ready on A: is encountered, for example
9. Fixed a prob with accidentally doing grid mouse marking of rows if a user clicked on the Display Files Grid after dropping down the DIREFILE Compare Directories List Box, or the DISPLAY Type Options List Box, and then went and clicked off of these List Boxes and on the Display Files Grid
10. Fixed a prob where you would get a Bad Path or Directory if you tried to Browse on a non-existent Dir 1 or Dir 2 Directory, and the program would exit.  Now you get an error message and are put back on the main screen.

Directory Checker 3.00  -  03/12/2004

Note:  After you purchase Directory Checker 3.00,  you may have to do a Reinstall on the Initial Softwrap menu, and enter your License Holder Name, and Purchase Reference number.   Then come back and load Directory Checker again, and it should load up Ok.

1. Added two new "Attrib" columns for Dir 1 and Dir 2 to display the RASH File Attributes for the compared files.
2. Shortened the Name and Vers columns a bit to make room for the new Attrib columns. Also shortened some of the Vers/Rev# Error messages to fit in their smaller columns.
3. Added two new sets of Main Menu options = Dir1_Attrib and Dir2_Attrib which have popdown menu options that allow users to Mark and UnMark RASH and Non RASH items, and Add and Delete RASH Flags. These menus also have the Mark All and UnMark All menu options which are from the Display/Mark Menu.
4. Added a new menu option = "Mark Like Names + Vers, Date/Size = Diff" to the Display/Mark menu. This allows users to mark just the files which have the Same Name, and Vers/Rev number, but have different Date/Times or Sizes.
5. Modified Copy Dir 1 Files, Copy Dir 2 Files, and Copy New Files to prompt users when a Read Only Destination File is encountered, and allow them to select Overwrite options = Yes, Yes To All, No, Cancel.

Yes = Overwrite this Read Only File
Yes To All = Overwrite this and all remaining Read Only Files
that do not have S or H flags
No = Skip over this file
Cancel = Exit the Copy Files process

Users will also be prompted when System or Hidden Files are encountered, but these only allow the Yes and No options.

Users cannot automatically Overwrite System and Hidden files, because of the risk of causing problems with specific application and operating system files if these files are accidentally overwritten.

Users must Mark and then use a "Dir1_Attrib" or "Dir2_Attrib" Menu option to remove the S and H flags from their files, then these files can be overwritten by the Copy processes if needed.
6. Added the Dir1 and Dir2 Attrib/RASH columns to the Print Display - To File, Print Display - Legal, and Print Display - Letter menu options on the File Menu.
7. Fixed a problem in Copy Files 2 where the paths for the Dir1 and Dir 2 files weren't always being calculated properly.
8. Fixed a Grid not Redraw OK problem with the Mouse down and scrolling the Display at the bottom of the screen.

Directory Checker 3.10  -  08/05/2004

Note:  After you purchase Directory Checker 3.10,  you may have to do a Reinstall on the Initial Softwrap menu, and enter your License Holder Name, and Purchase Reference number.   Then come back and load Directory Checker again, and it should load up Ok.

1. Made the Display Files Grid on the Main Screen = Resizeable.
2. Made the Directory Listings Combo Box on the Main Screen and Setup Screen = Resizeable
3. Made Double Click on a File on the Display Files Grid -- now load the File, if it has a valid  Registered File Type Association in "Tools/Folder Options/File Types" in Windows Explorer.
4. Changed The Note Book Icons = EditFiles, EditDirFile1, and EditDirFile2 to load the
Editor in Normal Windows mode
5. Did minor realignment of initial Display Files Grid load column widths to accomodate the new Resizeable feature, and remove horizontal scroll bars from the initial Display Files load, since the Display Files Grid is now Resizeable.
6. Modified Marking routines to Mark/Unmark all 11 Display Files columns in yellow or white.
7. Modified the Display Files Load -- Text Status box for Dir 1 to continue to display the Number of  Files loaded, while Dir 2 Files are loading.
8. On Print Display to File, Legal, and Letter, reduced the Font Size to Courier New 8, and reduced the printed Vers Nbr field lengths to a max of 10, to allow for wider Long Filenames for Dir 1 & 2.
9. Now, when you do Right Mouse Click over the Display Files Grid, it will popup the Display/Mark menu.

Directory Checker 3.11  -  08/13/2004

Note:  After you purchase Directory Checker 3.11,  you may have to do a Reinstall on the Initial Softwrap menu, and enter your License Holder Name, and Purchase Reference number.   Then come back and load Directory Checker again, and it should load up Ok.

1. Fixed a problem with no Icon appearing in the Taskbar when Directory_Checker was loaded and run.
2. Fixed a problem with refresh / flash through of windows behind Directory_Checker when Copy or Delete options were started.
3. Fixed Error 5 crash when you have selected a new Display Option, and the Setup Form -- Auto Redisplay option is on, and then you press Cancel while Display Files is processing, before the new selection is displayed.

Directory Checker 3.30  -  07/05/2005

Note:  After you purchase Directory Checker 3.30,  you may have to do a Reinstall on the Initial Softwrap menu, and enter your License Holder Name, and Purchase Reference number.   Then come back and load Directory Checker again, and it should load up Ok.

1. Added an option to use the "OpenWith" Dialog box, if DoubleClick on the DisplayFiles Grid does
not find a valid File Association for a file.
2. The Old GetRevNbr err msg "FileOpen=??" was changed to "Open=?" to fit the 6 space Vers Number column.
3. The SetFocus code was commented out in the DisplayFiles procedure to prevent users from being
unnecessarily switched back to Directory Checker when DisplayFiles is done.
4. Added a new "Use DocRevNbr" checkbox to the Setup Screen, and a new "DocRevNbr"
Menu to the Main Screen, which has "Use DocRevNbr" and "Don't Use DocRevNbr"
sub menu options.

When the "Use DocRevNbr" checkbox on the Setup Screen is Checked, the Main Screen
Display Files procedure will include the Document Revision Number in its compare files
processing for Word docs (*.Doc), Crystal Reports (*.Rpt), etc. But this makes Load and
Compare processing much slower.

However, the Last Modified Date is also updated in these types of (*.Doc) and (*.Rpt) files when
the Document Revision Number is incremented. So you can usually compare these files OK by only
using the Last Modified Date, and leaving the "Use DocRevNbr" checkbox unchecked.
Then the Load and Compare process becomes much faster.

The "Use DocRevNbr" and "Don't Use DocRevNbr" sub menu options on the Main Screen can be
temporarily selected, depending on whether you want to use the slower process that includes Document
Revision Number checking, or the much faster process that ignores it.
5. To Handle Err 6 overflow problems with files > 2 gig, increased the size of all variables that handle
file sizes and totals of file sizes, to handle > 2 gig sizes OK, and added new Err 6 processing.
6. Added Browse buttons for Dir1 and Dir2 on the File / Setup Window.
7. Added new Right Mouse Menus for Mark, UnMark, Copy, Delete, Rename for 0, 1, >1 Marked Files
for Dir1 and Dir2, in addition to the Display/Mark menu when no items are marked.
